Updates - upcoming events in more detail in more detail

An interesting opportunity-

Sunday July 29th 2pm - a free guided tour of Sheffield General Cemetery for signed up friends of Zion Graveyard.

Unfortunately this visit had to be postponed due to a downpour in the morning making the ground slippery and potentially hazardous.  A new date has been set for 2pm Sunday 26th August 2018.  As not everyone on the original list is able to make the new date there are now a few spare places.  Please contact us through the website if you would like to join us.

There are a few places left on this specially arranged visit. the tour will be led by Heritage Officer Janet Ridler who will help us understand more about Nonconformist burials and Victorian funeral traditions by showing us around this wonderful cemetery.   If you would like to come along please email ziongraveyard@gmail.com or phone 07980 143776 for more information.

Working in the Graveyard

Thanks to the kind co-operation of our neighbour David Grey, Executive chairman of G&J Hall,  the fence across Mary Anne Rawson's grave has now been removed. It looks so much better!  Come and see!
We are working with Wildscapes to develop a management plan that will enable access to the graves but maintain a safe haven for wildlife. If you have already visited the graveyard please help us by completing this questionnaire and contributing your thoughts about how this should be achieved..Zion Graveyard Management Plan questionnaire[3081].docx

In this lovely weather we have added and evening work session this month:

Wednesday 1st August  6 - 8pm and Wednesday 8th  August 1 -5pm:  - come and help with some light weeding and tidying up to maintain that romantic slightly overgrown look whilst leaving the graves accessible or bring camera or sketch book and get creative!

Open Afternoon Sunday  12th August  2 - 5pm
Parking is much easier on Sundays and Attercliffe is peaceful. Come for a stroll in the shade or if more energetic build us into a longer walk along the River Don which opens onto Attercliffe Cemetery - just walk straight through onto Attercliffe Road then turn first right into C and left along the cobbled Zion Lane. If you follow the fence line along the front of the unfinished fenced-in car sales lot you will find a small single gate into Zion Graveyard at the very far corner.  Com in and say hello!.  We will have information available and time to talk about the history of this fascinating site. As it is also a wildlife sanctuary we are sorry but no dogs (other than support dogs).  No need to book - just come along and if you are lucky you will even get a cup of tea.
