Thanks to the kind co-operation of our neighbour David Grey, Executive chairman of G&J Hall,  the fence across Mary Anne Rawson's grave has now been removed. It looks so much better!  Come and see!

We have a busy July coming up -
Open Afternoon Sunday  8th July  2 - 5pm  
If you haven't been to have a look why not come along to our next ope afternoon and you will be able to enter through the gate at the end of Ferguson Street which has easy parking on a Sunday and gives level access.  We will have information available and time to talk about the history of this fascinating site. It is also a wildlife haven so photographers and artists are welcome, but sorry - no dogs other than support dogs.  No need to book - just come along and if you are lucky you will even get a cup of tea.

Wednesday 11th July  1 - 5pm Workday at the Graveyard
 for those who like to get their hands dirty - light weeding and tidying up to maintain that romantic slightly overgrown look whilst leaving the graves accessible.

and ALSO

 from 2 - 4pm  Weds 11th July, a Community Get Together at nearby PJ Taste, 54 Staniforth Road,  for ex-residents of Attercliffe who have memories to share or those interested in seeing photographs fo how the graveyard has changed over time. We will also be taking groups along to the graveyard to see the real thing.

Saturday 14th July 2 - 4pm Snowdrop Garden Party.  Whatever the weather we will be joining with Upper Wincobank Chapel to hold a very special fund-raising event for Sheffield's Snowdrop Project which supports survivors of Modern Day Slavery and Human Trafficking. This will take place at the beautiful Victorian Chapel that was founded by Mary Anne Rawson who is buried in Zion Graveyard and who campaigned all her life for the universal abolition of slavery.
Please help by donating  items for the stalls, coming coming on the day and volunteering to help run a stall or activity.

Sunday July 29th 2pm - a guided tour of Sheffield General Cemetery led  by Heritage Officer Janet Ridler who will help us understand more about Non-conformist burials and Victorian funeral traditions by showing us around this wonderful cemetery.   The tour is being given free for Members of FoZGA but we are suggesting that visitors nevertheless make a small donation as the Cemetery Trust have recently launched an appeal for funds.  Please reply to this email to book a place.
